CALL-OUT: ASEAN Young Writers Award

Established in Thailand by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the Organizing Committee of the SEA Write Award, in collaboration with the SEA Write Network and the Mahidol University Faculty of Liberal Arts, the ASEAN Young Writers Award is an annual literary prize given to promising young writers in Southeast Asia.

Alternating between fiction, non-fiction, and poetry, this year's competition focuses on short stories.

The prize is open to writers aged 15 to 24, who are nationals of the ASEAN member countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam).


SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

(1) Contestants may submit an original short story written in either English or their National language. Submission to both categories is allowed, provided that each entry is distinct and not just a translation or adaptation of the other.

(2) Entries must not have been previously submitted nor won any local or international competition.

(3) Entries must be in font Cordia New, 16 pt. and must not exceed 3,000 words or 10 A4-sized pages in length.

(4) Entries must have the title indicated in bold typeface at the top of the first page.

(5) Entries must have the contestant's real name, age, grade/level in school or university (or alternatively, name of workplace and occupation), mailing address, e-mail address and telephone number typed at the bottom of the last page.

(6) Entries to be submitted by post or in person must include one (1) hard copy, a .doc or .pdf copy recorded in a CD/DVD, a fully accomplished Application Form and a certified copy of the contestant's valid ID. Postmark dated entries shall be considered. Entries must be addressed to the following:

(8) Entries to be submitted via email must include in the attachments copies of the accomplished Application Form, and the contestant's valid ID. Entries must be sent to aseanyoungwriters@gmail.com.

(9) The deadline of submission of entries is on June 30, 2014. 


AWARDS AND PRIZES: 

(1) Two winners will be chosen for each country: one for English and one for the National language category.

(2) The winners will receive a cash prize of USD 1,000, an inscribed plaque trophy, and the chance to travel to Bangkok for the awarding ceremony and represent their country at all ASEAN Event (Award Trip).

(3) Winning entries will also be published and promoted through various media channels.
